FEATURES

🌱 Certified Organic

100% pure organic Cinnamomum verum — no synthetic additives, fillers, or fragrance oils. Every bottle contains only steam-distilled cinnamon leaf oil, not bark oil.

🇱🇰 Sri Lankan Origin

Sourced from certified organic cinnamon plantations in Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon), the ancestral home of true cinnamon. Sri Lankan cinnamon is the world's finest, and our leaf oil carries the characteristic warm, spicy-sweet aroma of this legendary spice.

♨️ Steam Distilled

Gentle steam distillation from the leaves preserves the high eugenol content (68–87%) that gives cinnamon leaf oil its warm, clove-like character — distinct from the cinnamaldehyde-rich bark oil.

🔬 Eugenol-Rich Chemistry

Contains 68–87% eugenol, a phenolic compound also found in clove oil. Eugenol is what gives cinnamon leaf its warm, spicy-sweet, slightly clove-like aroma — very different from the sharp, sweet bite of cinnamon bark oil.

🍂 Warm Aromatherapy

One of the most popular essential oils for creating warm, cozy atmospheres. Cinnamon leaf is a staple in fall and winter diffuser blends, holiday scents, and comforting aromatic experiences.

🧹 Natural Cleaning

The warm, spicy aroma makes cinnamon leaf a popular addition to natural cleaning sprays. Research suggests eugenol may have surface-cleaning properties.

🎨 Versatile Blending Accent

A little goes a long way — 1–2 drops of cinnamon leaf add warm, spicy depth to citrus, floral, and woodsy blends. It transforms simple combinations into rich, complex, inviting aromas.

🍊 Leaf vs. Bark

Cinnamon leaf oil is primarily eugenol (warm, clove-like) while cinnamon bark oil is primarily cinnamaldehyde (sharp, sweet, fiery). Leaf oil is generally considered gentler and more versatile for aromatherapy, though both require careful dilution.

🫙 Dark Glass UV Protection

Packaged in dark amber glass to shield the oil from UV light. The euro dropper cap provides precise drop control and minimizes air exposure.

🏭 Hand-Bottled in the USA

Every bottle is hand-filled and inspected at our US facility, lot-coded for traceability so each batch can be tracked back to its source.

DILUTION GUIDE

About This Oil

Cinnamon leaf (Cinnamomum verum) is the essential oil distilled from the leaves of the true cinnamon tree, native to Sri Lanka. Unlike cinnamon bark oil (which is primarily cinnamaldehyde), cinnamon leaf oil is primarily eugenol — giving it a warmer, more clove-like character. Cinnamon leaf is non-phototoxic but has a very low maximum topical dilution (0.6%) due to the high eugenol content, which can irritate skin and mucous membranes at higher concentrations. It is primarily used for diffusing and natural cleaning rather than topical skin applications.

⚠️ Very Low Topical Limit: Cinnamon leaf has a maximum recommended topical dilution of 0.6% — significantly lower than most essential oils. This equals approximately 1–2 drops per tablespoon of carrier oil. Cinnamon leaf is primarily an aromatherapy and cleaning oil, not a skincare oil.

Safe Dilution Ratios (Max 0.6% Topical)

Due to the high eugenol content, cinnamon leaf requires the lowest topical dilution of nearly all common essential oils. Most users enjoy it primarily through diffusing and natural cleaning rather than skin application.

Drop counts are approximate — actual drop size varies by dispenser.

Application Cinnamon Leaf Drops Carrier / Medium Notes
Body (if used topically) 1–2 drops MAX 1 tbsp (15 ml) carrier oil ~0.4–0.6% dilution — absolute maximum. Avoid face, broken skin, sensitive areas
Diffuser 1–3 drops Water reservoir No carrier needed. Cinnamon leaf is strong — start with 1 drop. Diffuse 20–30 min.
Cleaning Spray 10–15 drops 16 oz water + emulsifier Not for skin — surface cleaning only

Diffuser Ratios by Room Size

Room Size Cinnamon Leaf Drops Duration
Small (bathroom, closet) 1 drop 15–20 minutes
Medium (bedroom, office) 1–2 drops 20–30 minutes
Large (living room, kitchen) 2–3 drops 30–40 minutes

If using topically, always perform a patch test first: apply a very diluted amount (1 drop in 1 tbsp carrier oil) to the inner forearm and wait 24 hours before broader application.

HOW TO USE
⚠️ Important: Cinnamon leaf oil has a very low topical dilution limit (0.6% max) due to high eugenol content. It can irritate skin and mucous membranes at higher concentrations. May inhibit blood clotting — consult a healthcare provider if taking anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications. Non-phototoxic.

Essential oils are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease.

Warm Aromatherapy & Diffusing

  1. Add 1–3 drops to your diffuser's water reservoir. Start with 1 drop — cinnamon leaf is strong and its warm, spicy aroma fills a room quickly.
  2. Diffuse for 20–30 minutes at a time, with breaks between sessions.
  3. For a cozy fall/winter blend, combine 1 drop cinnamon leaf with 3 drops of Sweet Orange and 1 drop of Patchouli.
  4. For on-the-go aromatherapy, place 1 drop on a tissue and inhale.

Natural Cleaning Spray

  1. Add 10–15 drops of cinnamon leaf oil to a 16 oz spray bottle of water.
  2. Add 1 teaspoon of castile soap or ½ teaspoon of polysorbate 20 as an emulsifier.
  3. Shake well before each use.
  4. Spray on countertops and bathroom surfaces. The warm, spicy scent freshens rooms while cleaning. Avoid natural stone surfaces (granite, marble).
  5. Wear gloves when using cinnamon-based cleaning sprays to avoid skin irritation.

Seasonal & Holiday Blends

  1. Cinnamon leaf is a staple in fall, winter, and holiday diffuser blends.
  2. Always use sparingly — 1–2 drops is enough to add warm, spicy depth to any blend.
  3. Pairs beautifully with Sweet Orange, Patchouli, Lavender, and Eucalyptus.

DIY Candles & Soaps (for experienced crafters)

  1. Cinnamon leaf is popular in handmade candles, wax melts, and cold-process soap for its warm, inviting scent.
  2. For soap making, keep total essential oil concentration within safe limits and follow established formulation guidelines for eugenol-containing oils.
  3. For candles and wax melts, follow your wax manufacturer's recommended fragrance load.

Very Limited Topical Use

  1. If using on skin, dilute to a maximum of 0.6% — approximately 1–2 drops per tablespoon of carrier oil.
  2. Avoid the face, broken skin, and sensitive areas.
  3. Cinnamon leaf is not recommended as a primary skincare oil — it is primarily an aromatherapy and cleaning oil.
  4. Always perform a patch test before first topical use.
SAFETY & HANDLING
Skin & Mucous Membrane Irritation
  • Maximum topical dilution: 0.6% — one of the lowest limits among common essential oils
  • High eugenol content (68–87%) can cause skin irritation, burning, and sensitization at higher concentrations
  • Can irritate mucous membranes — keep away from eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Do not apply undiluted under any circumstances
  • Avoid use on the face, broken skin, and sensitive areas
  • Non-phototoxic — no UV restrictions after topical use
Drug Interactions & Medical Conditions
  • Blood clotting: Eugenol may inhibit blood clotting. Consult a healthcare provider before use if taking anticoagulant medications (e.g., warfarin, heparin) or antiplatelet medications (e.g., aspirin, clopidogrel)
  • Surgery: Discontinue use at least 2 weeks before scheduled surgery due to potential blood-thinning effects
  • Pregnancy: Consult a healthcare provider before use
  • Consult a healthcare provider if you have any bleeding disorder or liver condition
General Safety
  • For external use only — do not ingest
  • Always dilute with a carrier oil before applying to skin (0.6% max)
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets
  • Wear gloves when handling undiluted oil or concentrated cleaning sprays
  • Discontinue use if irritation occurs
Storage Guidelines
  • Store in a cool, dark place with the cap tightly sealed
  • Keep away from heat sources and direct sunlight
  • The dark amber glass bottle protects against UV degradation
  • Expected shelf life: 3–5 years when stored properly
  • Tip: write the date you opened the bottle on the label so you can track freshness
First Aid
  • Eye contact: Flush immediately with carrier oil, then rinse with clean water. Eugenol near the eyes is extremely painful — seek medical attention if irritation persists
  • Skin irritation/burning: Apply carrier oil generously to dilute (do not use water alone — it can spread the oil), then wash with soap and water
  • Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. Contact Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) or seek medical attention
  • Allergic reaction: Discontinue use. Seek emergency attention if swelling, difficulty breathing, or severe rash develops

Essential Oils

Bath & Wellness Products

Note: A "carrier oil" is any vegetable-based oil used to dilute essential oils before skin application. Popular options include jojoba, sweet almond, fractionated coconut, and avocado oil — available at most health food stores. Due to cinnamon leaf's very low topical limit (0.6%), it is not recommended for bath soaks.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is this cinnamon leaf oil organic?

Yes. Our cinnamon leaf essential oil is 100% pure, certified organic Cinnamomum verum from Sri Lanka. It contains no synthetic additives, fillers, fragrance oils, or carrier oils. It is steam-distilled from cinnamon leaves and hand-bottled at our US facility.

What does cinnamon leaf essential oil smell like?

Cinnamon leaf has a warm, spicy, musky aroma — more clove-like than cinnamon bark, with a sweet, herbaceous depth. This is because cinnamon leaf is primarily eugenol (68–87%), the same compound found in clove oil, while cinnamon bark is primarily cinnamaldehyde, which gives the sharp, fiery "cinnamon" scent most people recognize.

What is the difference between cinnamon leaf and cinnamon bark oil?

Cinnamon leaf oil is distilled from the leaves and is primarily eugenol (68–87%), giving it a warm, clove-like character. Cinnamon bark oil is distilled from the bark and is primarily cinnamaldehyde (45–65%), giving it the sharp, sweet, fiery "cinnamon" scent. Both require very careful dilution, but leaf oil is generally considered the gentler of the two and more versatile for aromatherapy blending.

Why is the max topical dilution so low (0.6%)?

Cinnamon leaf's high eugenol content (68–87%) can cause skin irritation, burning, and sensitization at concentrations above 0.6%. This is one of the lowest topical limits among common essential oils. For this reason, cinnamon leaf is primarily used for diffusing and natural cleaning rather than topical skin applications. If applying to skin, never exceed 1–2 drops per tablespoon of carrier oil.

Can cinnamon leaf oil interact with medications?

Yes. Eugenol may inhibit blood clotting. If you take anticoagulant medications (such as warfarin or heparin) or antiplatelet medications (such as aspirin or clopidogrel), consult your healthcare provider before using cinnamon leaf oil, even in a diffuser. Discontinue use at least 2 weeks before any scheduled surgery.

Is cinnamon leaf essential oil phototoxic?

No. Cinnamon leaf oil is non-phototoxic, meaning you do not need to avoid sunlight after the very limited topical application. However, the 0.6% topical limit applies regardless of UV exposure.

Can I use cinnamon leaf oil in the bath?

We do not recommend using cinnamon leaf oil in bath soaks. The high eugenol content can irritate skin, and water does not adequately dilute essential oils. If you want warm, spicy aromatherapy in the bath, diffuse cinnamon leaf nearby instead, and use gentler oils like Lavender or Sweet Orange in the bath itself.

Is cinnamon leaf safe for children?

Due to the very low topical limit and potential for skin irritation, we do not recommend topical use of cinnamon leaf oil on children. If diffusing around children, use minimal amounts (1 drop) in a well-ventilated space and observe for any sensitivity. Always consult a pediatrician before using essential oils around children.

Is cinnamon leaf essential oil safe for pets?

Cats are particularly sensitive to essential oils, including eugenol-rich oils like cinnamon leaf. Do not apply to pets. If diffusing, ensure the area is well-ventilated with an exit route for animals. Consult your veterinarian before using any essential oil around pets.

How many drops are in a 15 ml bottle?

Approximately 300 drops, using the standard euro dropper cap included with each bottle. Since cinnamon leaf is used in very small amounts (1–3 drops at a time), a single bottle lasts a very long time.

How should I store cinnamon leaf oil?

Store in a cool, dark place with the cap tightly sealed. Cinnamon leaf has a shelf life of 3–5 years when stored properly. Refrigeration is not required but won't harm the oil.

Can I ingest cinnamon leaf essential oil?

No. Our essential oils are formulated, tested, and labeled for external use only. Essential oils are extremely concentrated — cinnamon leaf oil is not the same as culinary cinnamon. For cooking, use whole cinnamon sticks or ground cinnamon instead.

What makes Sri Lankan cinnamon special?

Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) is the ancestral home of true cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum). Sri Lankan cinnamon is considered the gold standard — distinct from and superior to cassia cinnamon (C. cassia) from China or Indonesia. The leaf oil from true cinnamon has a more refined, complex aroma profile with its characteristic warm, clove-like eugenol character.
